To avoid computer hacks that can be very harmful and are unfortunately common in the music industry, we would like to share some security tips to help protect your accounts.

Keep these tips in mind and share them with your team or whoever manages the artist's accounts.

YouTube and Social Media

Passwords

  • It is important to use a unique password or passphrase for every account, including both personal and work accounts. This helps to prevent credential stuffing attacks.

  • When creating your passwords, use a combination of upper and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters.

  • When creating a password, it is important to remember that dictionary words should not be used, unless you are using a passphrase.

  • Please refrain from using personal information such as names and dates.

  • It is recommended to change your passwords every 90 days. This practice ensures that your accounts stay secure and protected against unauthorized access.

  • Please avoid using similar passwords for your different accounts. It's important to create unique and strong passwords to keep your accounts secure.

  • Use secure options for password storage (encrypted password managers).

  • "Remember to keep your passwords private and never share them with anyone."

  • Make sure you are the only person who has access to the accounts.

  • It is highly recommended that you use Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) to secure your accounts. It is even better if you use an authenticator app instead of mobile SMS for MFA. This will provide an extra layer of security and help protect your accounts from unauthorized access.

  • Google or YouTube will never ask for your login information, including passwords, secret questions, or double authentication codes.

  • Lock any mobile device with a good password or pattern, and make sure you can remotely log out if the device is lost or stolen.

  • You may receive emails that pretend to be a company, for example Facebook. Always check whether or not the email address where that email comes from to check if it is the real company that sends it, to avoid phishing.

Services In The CLoud (Icloud, Google Drive, etc)

  • If you use a cloud service and it is synced with your accounts, everything you upload will be automatically uploaded to the cloud.

  • If you're no longer using any of your cloud service accounts, it's recommended to delete them. Keeping them open can make their passwords vulnerable.

  • If you share a link with files, be sure to set an expiration date. This will limit access to the file in case it is shared with a large group of people.

  • If you share a link with files, it's important to add a password and limit access to the intended recipient. Consider setting the link to "Read only" mode and adding a watermark to audio files.

  • When you enter into websites where you must share sensitive data, make sure they start with https:// and that they are trustworthy.

  • Do not access to open connection networks when you are using important data. If you do that, check the security and privacy of the accounts used when leaving.
