Spotify Now Lets Artists Upload Videos Directly

Written by Julieta Erdozain

Spotify has launched a new feature: artists with access to Spotify for Artists (S4A) can now upload music videos directly from their dashboard.

What it accepts

The feature accepts live performances, studio sessions, covers, and official music videos. Visualizers, lyric videos, multi-song concerts, and videos without music are not currently supported.

Why it matters

After streaming a video, listeners stream that song 64% more often over the following three weeks on average, and are 1.4x more likely to save, share, or add it to a playlist. Additionally, these videos are royalty-bearing and may be chart-eligible.

Who can watch

Spotify's music video feature is available to Premium subscribers in the US and Canada, following an earlier rollout across roughly 85 to 100 markets.

Technical specs

  • Format: MP4 or MOV, 16:9, desktop upload only

  • Minimum resolution: 180px

  • Maximum length: 20 minutes / 50 GB

  • Must contain audio and moving images (no static image slideshows)

Access

The feature is currently in beta with limited access. If you don't have it yet, you can join the waitlist directly from your S4A dashboard.
